Museum Ciäsa Granda

The Valley Museum
The Ciäsa Granda (‘big house’), now an ethnographic museum, belongs to the Museo Ciäsa Granda e Atelier Giacometti Foundation since 2023. In 1952, the assembly of the then Società Culturale association decided to purchase the house to convert it into a cultural centre. The museum features realistic dioramas, reconstructions of workshops for various crafts and valuable documentation of domestic life in the valley. Visitors are given a vivid insight into the social, cultural and natural history of the Bregaglia Valley and can also learn about its customs. During the summer months, the Ciäsa Granda hosts special exhibitions.
In addition to the special atmosphere of the imposing 16th-century patrician house, the museum also displays high-quality fine art. The collection of artworks by artists from the Bregaglia Valley, Giovanni, Augusto, Alberto and Diego Giacometti, as well as Varlin, who moved to Bondo, is modest in size but reflects the artists' close connection to the valley, particularly in terms of subject matter. The studio of Giovanni and Alberto Giacometti is run by the museum.
